Read: Isaiah 53:3-5.
In these prophetic verses, identify the elements of Jesus’ suffering on the cross. Which elements were physical? Emotional? Spiritual?
What elements of that suffering does Isaiah say were at the hands of men? Which were from the hands of God the Father?
Track through these verses the use of the word “our” and examine all the impact of your sin on His suffering.

When Jesus entered into the suffering of the cross, it was for your wrongdoing, not His own. How often do you suffer because of your own actions? How much because of the sins of others?
As you consider the depths of Christ’s suffering, can you also consider the heights of forgiveness and rescue that His suffering purchased for you? As you think of this, spend a few moments in quiet reflection and worship for His love for you.

I Peter 2:21
For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.
I Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.
I Peter 4:1-2
Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
What is the cause of our suffering? Do we suffer because of being a Christian or because of being a sinful person? How has Christ’s demonstration of love for us on Calvary’s cross paved the way for us on our road to heaven?
