Touch is critical for humans to thrive. During the current pandemic, we have all been affected by the isolation and lack of touch experienced through social distancing. The touch of family members in India soothed the patients and reduced their need for medication.

Having someone present, especially physically, can give me peace and help me get through the tough times. Simple presence can be a great deal of good for a sick person.

Knowing that someone else cares, makes things seem more bearable. That feeling of not being alone gives us strength.

I found it easier in my own life that if someone is with you during your times of fear or pain it makes it a lot easier to get through it. Just having someone with you makes all the difference in the world. I don’t understand the second question if they can’t feel pain than how do they know someone is touching them. I can understand the presence of someone near easing the pain.

A human touch gives me hope and reassures me that I am not alone in my pain. Someone is there, someone cares, and that presence lifts my spirit up.

In India, it was seen during the family visitations. Even when the person was just there, his or her presence touched the patient’s heart. It was comforting.

Most recently, in the response to the Marshall fire near Denver. During and after mass shootings such as at Columbine High or at the Aurora theater during the Batman movie—The Dark Knight Rises.

A few years ago, there was a shooting at a bar in our city. The people pulled together to make the lost lives worth something. In particular, a deputy sherriff was killed and the community came around his family to help support them in a number of different ways.

9-11 or the earthquakes in Haiti. Right after 9-11, people wanted to help others. They wanted to get involved. After the earthquakes, people and aid were sent.

9 11 was certainly such a time. I recall that many pastors from all around the country went to New York to minister to people.
They simply went at the prompting of God. They served humbly in any task they could with kindness and humility.
