While the book of Ruth is a narrative book, it doesn’t move the story forward. Rather, it expands on the book of Judges by adding extra details, and we thus categorize it as a “Color” book.

In Ruth we have a sub story that adds details of “color” during the time of the Judges. It doesn’t advance the “time” of the history books but gives extra details to the history of Israel..

It doesn’t move the story forward. It adds information to the story.

Although the book of Ruth doesn’t move the Narrative story forward, it does add more “colour” and details to the Judges period.

It adds details to the Judges period of the OT narrative section but does not actually move the story forward.
