One way I have seen hypocrisy negatively impact the church is the church’s stance on homosexuality. Many clergypersons and parishioners will teach on the subject and yet participate in the acts themselves. The best way to eliminate this hypocrisy is for the church to be consistent in its teachings on the subject. For example, answering questions such as what is the root origin of homosexuality? Why does the church make the story of Sodom and Gomorrah about homosexual acts only and not about all the sinful actions themselves? Why does the church teach there is no hierarchy of sin but puts greater emphasis on homosexuality? Was homosexuality brought in by divine design based on the actions of Adam and Eve since they were the two responsible for eating from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil? Bringing clarity to these answers would better help the church understand the origins of this sexual act and help communities heal.

The ways that I have seen hypocrisy in the church negatively impact churches’s witness to the world is by what we are now seeing being exposed in the media, politics, injustices, greed, pride and corruption, which has been happening since inception of the church and all these will always exist. I am unable to comprehend anyways or solutions to eliminate hypocrisy in the church. I will be happy to accept some please. Thanks you.

In many ways, the church has boxed itself in with its “Follow me to church” bumper stickers while ignoring the diviseness, racism, factionalism, indifference, and many other ungodliness that festers just below the surface in many congregations. Perhaps the church needs to incorporate in its preaching of the gospel what the Apostle Paul did consistently, that is, remind people of what he was before his conversion and what he continued to struggle with even after conversion. It’s one thing to share our stories about how Jesus saved us; but it’s quite another to share how Jesus, through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit, continues to use our trials, sins, and weaknesses to form and shape Jesus’s nature within us.

I have some members of the family who refuse to go to church because of judgment they received from members of the church. I believe that one can eliminate hypocrisy in the church by concentrating in Jesus, the resurrection, the salvation of souls, instead of looking at outward behaviors of people.
