Overview and Objectives

Using personal experience as an example, Dr. Welch describes how a biblical model for marriage requires each spouse to focus on the other rather than on him/herself. Through Dr. Welch’s story, students will learn about choosing unselfishness and about the process of forgiveness.

When you complete this lesson, you should be able to do the following:

• Discuss a biblical model for marriage.
• Describe what true forgiveness looks like and how it happens.
• Explain what is involved in truly seeking forgiveness from your spouse.

Do you feel that your marriage is “all about me” or “all about the other”? Honestly assess and reflect on how you can be more focused on your spouse.
