The Roman soldiers were. They gambled for his cloak and they were the ones who had to make sure he was dead. They were masters of death and if they had released a prisoner who was still alive, they would have been put to death themselves. These witnesses unaffiliated with Christ are tough to refute.

The Roman soldiers and the Jews witnessed the crucifixion of Jesus. Their testimony would have had great value because they witnessed it first hand as people who didn’t believe that Jesus was who He said He was. They would have had no reason to lie, so their testimony would have been of great value.

One of the witnesses of Jesus’ death of Calvary was the Centurion. The Centurion’s testimony is very valuable because he had most likely participated in many different crucifixions. But, the Centurion noticed that this crucifixion was different because even though Jesus was beaten, mocked, and put to death by the Jews and the Romans, He asked God to “forgive them, for they know not what they do. The Centurion witnessed this and also the darkness that came after. These things led to the Centurion realizing that Jesus was the Christ and eventually accepting Him as his savior.

The Roman soldiers and Jews. Their testimony is of high value because the soldier had done many crucifixion and would have been experts in this field as executioners. Plus of they were wrong, their punishment would have been severe.
