I usually read the Bible in a year, and ODB helps me in doing the prayer time

I’ve been reading and reflecting on ODB Daily devotions for many years now. I spend a good 30 minutes in the morning before work, and similar time before going to bed.

Currently I read the Daily Bible which breaks down the Bible into 365 sections so that I read through the Bible in a year. My entire church commits to this so there is built in accountability and motivation to read consistently. I’m hoping to add a time of journaling after reading to prompt deeper thinking and reflection.

My wife and I use the ODB phone application to hear the daily devotional before our morning prayers. We continue to use this method. In the evening I listen to selected “You Version” bible plans on my phone as well as the “In Touch” app daily devotionals.

I use Our Daily Bread, the First Five, Max Lucado, and the Holy Bible App. The only think I haven’t done is write in a journal to God. I have written in a journal, but it’s not really directed towards him but just putting down my understanding of what I have read. I think this is the step I have been missing in my Bible study.

My methods in the past have been very chaotic. I was all over the place with my times and what I prayed and what I studied. This lesson has been very interesting and offered good techniques for study and quiet time with Him. I believe having a set time will help immensely.

I use apps a lot. I love the youversion app. I always do different bible plans there so that is a part of my daily devotion. I also you the abide app which is Christian prayer and meditation. I also pray throughout the day. I want to be more consistent in these practices. I definitely will be setting aside a time and place as our lesson suggested to KEEP my appointments with God. I really loved that.

I do Bible Study fellowship currently-a bible study that is broken down into daily exercises. In the past I have used many devotionals including the Bible apps daily devotionals, Jesus calling and some other studies from books I have read depending on the time of the church calendar. (Advent, Easter, Lent, etc.). I like Bible study fellowship the best because it goes back and for the between the old and new testaments each day.

      I inductively study a passage
      I pray and journal
I used to do live worship on my guitar, should get back to that.
I walk in nature and praise God as I drive.

I have followed bible reading plans, but it seems to be the best when I just ask the Lord to guide me on what to read and/or what to pray about. I love reading in Romans, John, also the letters – Collasians, Ephesians, Galatians, Phillipians – these always seem to have a word the Lord wants to speak to me.

I began meeting with the Lord first thing in the morning when my children where babies. I would get up at least two hours before their regular wake-up time to assure I had my time with the Lord… I have continued that practice even still that all of our children are away at college or married. I use Precept Bible studies, journaling, listening, and prayer.

I have used a scripture of the day or daily devotional as a starting point for focus. I also journal. Important to me is capturing what I hear and seeking understanding for application. The combo of Bible reading and prayers in any order has worked for me hitherto. However, finding and sticking to a consistent timeslot in the day has been a lingering challenge for me. I have not journaled. I like the idea of asking how to apply the verse.

Setting a time that is consistent has been awesome. If I can’t at that time, making sure it is a priority in the schedule is huge.
