The characteristics of the judges were the spirit of God, and they always conveyed the word of God, not their own words.

Honest, obedient men of God, with flaws just like we have. But they trusted God to help them do what was right in God’s sight, not their own.

They displayed leadership qualities but were flawed. But their flaws did not stop God from using them.

The judges were flawed men just like us , but God still use them to accomplish his purpose, and move the story of the nation of Israel forward.

Joshua and His household followed God’s commands and instructions. God was their only leader and they followed Him. If we would trust and follow God alone, He promises to lead us in victory. God is faithful to us and desires us to be faithful to Him.

Joshua trusted and obeyed God. He relied on God, more than his own abilities, for the strength to do what was laid before him. I need to develop a more instinctual “trust God first” response to challenges rather than continue a lifelong pattern of leading with my own abilities.

The meditation of the book of the law as he was instructed in Joshua 1:8, and fear of God. I believe that was what moved him to not waver in his obedience to God. We can apply this by meditation on the word daily, and most importantly asking the Holy Spirit to help us to obey.
